In August/September 2006 I took a trip on my own to walk and do a bit of climbing around Malham Cove, and Gordale Scar.

My B&B was in a picturesque setting (see pictures) - next to the small river which flows down from Malham Cove.

Unfortunately, the trip was dogged by bad weather - heavy rain. After many hours of heavy rain, getting over the small bridge to the B&B proved quite a challenge, as the river had become something of a flood, making crossing a very wet process! However, I did get to explore both Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, and the surrounding limestone hills. Later, I took a short drive out to see the Ribblehead Viaduct - it was raining sideways. Despite the rain, there were many other people looking at the viaduct and walking around nearby. I took another drive to take a look at Pen-y-Ghent. I wanted to climb Pen-Y-Ghent but the first time I got there I could hardly see it. Fortunately the rain cleared on the last day of the trip, so I got to the top, but had to get back quickly to start the drive over to Dewsbury.

Both Malham Cove and Gordale Scar are spectacular place to visit.
