Having done The Three Peaks, and had a crack at Kilimanjaro, I decided it would be a good idea to climb an active volcano. The nearest one, and a very active one, was Mount Etna on Siciliy. I planned a trip, and secured the assistance of an official guide, Rosario, as I intended to get to the top - the crater rim - rather than go to the normal tourist viewpoint some 2000 feet lower down.
The only person brave enough (or crazy enough) to accompany me was the daughter of a good friend....
